Granny B’s Chocolate Sop
Granny B’s Chocolate Sop
Nicole Queen: Clayton, GA
This is a recipe that was passed down to me by my Granny B. It’s an old Appalachian recipe from the northeast corner of Georgia. Most families in the region would prepare this with the addition of flour, which is called chocolate gravy. My family always used the Chocolate Sop version, and we called it that because you use your biscuit to 'sop' it up.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup milk
- 2 cups sugar
- 3 tbsp cocoa
- 1 tbsp butter
Instructions:
- Place first 3 ingredients in a 2-quart pot over medium heat.
- Stir constantly until the cocoa is incorporated.
- Bring mixture to a boil and stir until slightly thickened.
- Add butter.
- Remove from heat.
